Ian
Nosworthy was admitted to practice in South Australia in 1968 and has nearly 40 years
experience in legal practice.
Ian was the youngest capital partner at Thomson & Co when that firm dissolved in 1972.
He became a Founding Partner and the Managing Partner of Ross McCarthy & Nosworthy
(now Phillips Fox) until he joined Finlaysons in 1989. Ian established Nosworthy Partners
in 1993. He has had a wide exposure as solicitor and counsel to insurance and civil
litigation of all types, and has conducted numerous large and landmark cases.
Ian has acted in numerous city building disputes including the REMM Myer Centre dispute
and other major building disputes Australia wide. He has acted for (and against) every
major insurer in Australia and has an Australia-wide and international reputation as an able litigator,
arbitrator and mediator.
Ian has degrees in Law and Arts from the University of Adelaide. He is a Grade 1 Arbitrator
and Immediate Past President of the Institute of Arbitrators
and Mediators Australia. With Sir Laurence Street, he led the Commercial Dispute
Resolution Section of the Australian Legal Services Mission to Malaysia from 25 to 27 August 2003.

For many years Ian was a member of the LEADR Advanced
Panel of Mediators, and he is a Chartered Arbitrator with the Chartered Institute of
Arbitrators. He is admitted to legal practice in the Northern Territory, New South Wales
and Victoria. He is a Life Member of LawAsia and a past Chairman of
the South Australian Law Society LawAsia Committee.
Ian is the Honorary Solicitor for and a Life Member of Gymnastics SA.
Ian is also the Deputy Chairman of the
Business Law Section of the
Law Council of Australia.
Ian has extensive experience as an advocate, arbitrator and mediator, both in
arbitration and the courts, especially in the areas of insurance law, and building, construction
and engineering contracts and disputes, professional and partnership disputes and personal injury claims.
